The Mayor of Corlu in the European parliament by invitation of the MRF

The Mayor of Corlu, Turkey – Ahmet Sarikurt visited the European Parliament by an invitation of the MRF. The MRF Members of the European parliament hosted the delegation led by Mr. Sarikurt, which included Gyuner Cetin, MRF’s representative for the Thracian district, who is in addition currently serving as the deputy mayor of Corlu. This was reported by the press service of MEP Ilhan Kyuchyuk.

During the visit, the delegation participated in meetings with the EU Representative of the Republican Party of Turkey (CHP), Mrs. Kader Sevinc, with representatives of the Committee of the Regions, the European External Action Service, the European Commission’s Turkey Division and the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Turkey to the European Union. Meetings were also held with Engin Eroglu, a German MEP in the Renew Group, as well as with the deputy mayor (2e Échevin) of the ‘Scharbeek’ municipality in Brussels and with representatives of the media in Brussels.

‘We want the municipality of Corlu to develop as a European city. The MRF members of the European Parliament will contribute for the cultural, social and economic development of our city.’, emphasized the mayor of the municipality, who is also the son of a Bulgarian expatriate from Yablanovo, Sliven region.

The city of Corlu is located between Istanbul and the border of the Republic of Turkey with Bulgaria and Greece. With its favorable location, it enjoys a developing economy, with nearly 1000 operating manufacturing enterprises. Corlu is one of the most densely populated cities in the Tekirdag area with a population of 263,862 people. The main reason for the expansion and increasing the population of the city is the displacement of over 60 thousand Bulgarian Turks during the so-called ‘Revival Process’ in 1989.
