Ilhan Kyuchyuk, MEP from ALDE/MRF hosted an event in the European Parliament, presenting the first European games which will take place in the capital of Azerbaijan- Baku in the period of 12-28 June this year. Keynote speakers of the event were Mr. Azad Rahimov, Minister of youth and sports in Azerbaijan, His Excellency Fuad Izgandarov, ambassador of Azerbaijan in Belgium, as well as many MEPs, stuff of the European institutions and representatives of civil society. There was given detailed information about the preparation of the event and Baku-2015 film was broadcasted for the first time.
“The first European games will give a chance for European sportsmen to compete in different disciplines, but first of all they will be a good opportunity to present Azerbaijan in front of wide audience. Together with the political dialogue and the good cooperation in the fields of investments, economy and energy, I am convinced that this event will give new impetus in the deepening of the trade’s and cultural connections with Europe. We will witness tolerance and continuity of ethnic, cultural and religious diversity which are in the basis of the European motto “united in diversity”, said Ilhan Kyuchyuk in his speech.
Minister Azad Rahimov talked about the achievements of Azerbaijan in sports during the years. He said that the hosting of the European games is because of those high achievements and the particular attention of Azerbaijan towards sports.
Among the guests of the events were young people from Sofia and Lovech who were on two-days visit at the European parliament, invited by Ilhan Kyuchyuk. During their visit they had the chance to observe the work of the institution, to listen to a presentation about the history and functioning of the European Union, as well as to talk in person with the MEPs from MRF.
