“MRF will work for the accelerated democratic development of Bulgaria. The cohesion of European societies is the best weapon against the extreme nationalism”.
That was stated by MEP Ilhan Kyuchyuk during a discussion at the European Parliament with members and sympathizers of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms from the regions of Pleven and Dobrich. The group visited Brussels on invitation by Mr. Kyuchyuk, and the attending guests had the opportunity to get acquainted with the work of the institution, to hear a lecture on the history and functioning of the European Union and meet the Bulgarian members of Parliament from the MRF. That was announced by the press-office of the MEP.
Giving an overview on his activities and obligations as Member of the European Parliament, Ilhan Kyuchyuk paid special attention to the upcoming European elections: “In the month of May, all European citizens will be faced with the decisive choice, of what Europe we want to live in. We have before us the alternative of europeism, of freedom and tolerance, of the dream of more Europe. But others would want to turn Europe to its darkest years and oppose it with populism and hate speech, with extreme nationalism and isolationism. Bulgaria will not be an exception to that. For us at the MRF, the road ahead has been clearly drafted. We will work for the accelerated democratic development of Bulgaria, but also for bringing together the European societies, as the best weapon against the extreme nationalism.”
A special part of the program included a visit to the European Committee of the Regions. There the visitors held a discussion with the Secretary General for the ALDE Group at the Committee of the Regions, Mr. Sean O’Curneen, who presented ALDE’s White book containing 53 proposals on how to bring Europe closer to the citizens.
Mr. O’Curneen called for an improved dialogue with the citizens, so that the politicians could hear their concerns and proposals for a better union. According to him, the cooperation between liberal structures in Europe is important for the finding of democratic solutions to the common European problems.
