EU plans to tackle the energy crisis, corruption, high electricity prices and investment in the EU economy were among the topics discussed with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

MEP from MRF/Renew Europe Ilhan Kyuchyuk supported the efforts of the European Commission and stated that today Europe must be united, both internally and externally.

In his words, the Commission’s proposal to create a political community is good, but according to him, the Western Balkans should be an integral part of the EU.

“I really like the idea of a political community and creating new friendships and partnerships. But I cannot perceive the Western Balkans as part of this political community. For me, they should be an integral part of the EU. Historically and geographically they belong to Europe and I want them to be part of the EU. Generations of both European and national politicians have been working for this,” Kyuchyuk said categorically.

According to the MEP, the big challenge facing the Union is how to make Europe look different in 2024. Kyuchyuk welcomed the Commission’s idea of creating a real European Convention, where the ideas of citizens can find a place.

In a keynote speech before the European Parliament, she presented the measures for exiting the energy crisis and intentions for the legislative initiatives that are to come in the coming weeks and months.
