There is no doubt that we are living in a very globalised and developed world. But today’s world is not peaceful and secure. Because of increasing globalisation, the world is facing security threats and challenges that are different in scale and sophistication. In light of this, it is important to note that today’s global security threats and challenges such as organised crime, terrorism, cyber-attacks, credit card fraud, human and drug trafficking cannot be resolved by independent state, organisation or specific sector policy. Therefore, we need more ambitious, more coordinated and more holistic approaches to solve them. In this context, strategic cooperation agreement between Brazil and Europol can be regarded as a big step forward in fight against organised crime, illegal trafficking, cybercrime, terrorism and etc. In addition, it is also important to note that security cooperation between EU and Brazil is urgent since upcoming 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil are expected to increase criminal activities in the state. In this sense, security cooperation between Europol and Brazil will ensure safety for athletes, delegations, tourists and guests.
