I supported the resolution because the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development seeks to build on the Millennium Development Goals and complete those goals which have not been achieved. Therefore, the main goals and targets of the 2030 agenda over the next 15 years have been put in areas of crucial importance for humanity and the planet, such as: people, planet, prosperity, peace and partnership.
It should be emphasised that the EU has played an important role in shaping the 2030 agenda, through public consultations, dialogue with its partners and in-depth research. The EU should continue to play a crucial role, this time in the implementation of the agenda. A good starting point for this will be if we manage – through coordination, dialogue and joint work at all levels within and between EU institutions – to ensure the integration of this universal agenda in EU internal and external policies. Thus, the EU will have an opportunity to make the world a better place by 2030.
