MEP held key meetings in Congress and Senate
In a series of working meetings on the Capitol Hill with US Congressmen Mario Diaz-Balart, Joe Wilson and Jim Costa, European Liberal leader Ilhan Kyuchyuk expressed his support for a stronger transatlantic partnership between Europe and the United States. Promoting democracy, the war in Ukraine, opportunities to support the Ukrainian people and the transatlantic partnership are a specific focus of the politicians’ attention.
“In times of war, when the rules-based international order is being tested, close transatlantic coordination and partnership is no alternative. Today we see that the world is once again facing a military mobilisation unprecedented since the end of the Second World War, and only by working collectively we can restore peace and sustain democratic values. The fight to defend human rights and against autocracy can only be successful when Europe and the United States speak with the same voice. Democracy must win!” said Kyuchyuk.
During his visit to Washington, Ilhan Kyuchyuk held meetings at the US State Department, with the President of the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) Damon Wilson, with the President of the National Democratic Institute (NDI) Derek Mitchell, with the Jermaine Marshall Fund, with the EU Ambassador to the US Stavros Lambrinidis. During the meetings, they discussed joint efforts to promote democracy, the war in Ukraine and opportunities to support the Ukrainian people, as well as joint actions to promote Euro-Atlantic integration in the Western Balkans.
