Ilhan Kyuchyuk is on a two-day visit to Ukraine, accompanied by a delegation of ALDE. In Kiev, the Bulgarian MEP met with the ministers of defense and foreign affairs, with whom they discussed the development of the war and international cooperation in support of Ukraine, especially in the context of the worrying situation at the largest nuclear power plant in Europe – the Zaporozhye NPP, where several shelling continued for days.
“We should not allow in the 21st century, in the heart of Europe, problems to be solved by military action. On behalf of the liberals in Europe, I express full support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, as well as for the country’s European perspective,” said Kyuchyuk.
The Bulgarian MEP expressed the hope that after October 2, Bulgaria will have a clear Euro-Atlantic government and a firm position in support of Ukraine.
The meetings are part of the visit of the ALDE co-president and the delegation led by him to Ukraine. In Kyiv, the delegation also held high-level meetings with representatives of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, with the Ukrainian Ombudsman and with liberal partners from President Volodymyr Zelenskyi’s party “Servant of the People”.
ALDE’s delegation visited the cities of Hostomel and Irpin, which are believed to have borne the brunt of the Russian offensive against the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv.
