At an official ceremony in Brussels, MEP Ilhan Kyuchyuk was honored as an honorary member of the liberal party Nasa Stranka, which is part of the ALDE Liberal Family. MEP awarded a plaque by Bosnian politician Sabina Cudic.
“It is a great pleasure for me to be an honorary member of the party. Thank you for the support and trust you have given me over the years. I strongly believe that Bosnia and Herzegovina needs liberal-minded politicians to move the country forward on its path to the EU. I am pleased that liberal parties across Europe are becoming increasingly important players in forming governments that apply liberal values and ideals in practice, just as party chairman Edin Forto and Nasa Stranka in Sarajevo do. Our Party fights daily for democratic values and takes steps towards the EU. “Only Europe can give impetus to the development of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the country has a future in the Union,” Kyuchyuk said.
The MEP recalled that the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina had suffered greatly from the ethnic conflict in the 1990s and that it was high time the country took a big step forward on its European path and soon became a candidate country.
According to him, in order to succeed, there must be concrete reforms that are inclusive and involve the whole population. The European Union has always defended the principles of pluralism, inclusion and openness in political processes. This goes through a functioning civic democracy and overcoming the painful past of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
