Liberal heads of state met today in Brussels ahead of the European Council to discuss Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine, security and defense issues, and the upcoming 2024 European elections.
Under the theme “Onward to 2024,” liberal leaders discussed the war in Ukraine and the security of Europe. The leaders firmly declared their continued commitment to supporting the Ukrainian people.
“The situation demands full solidarity from us. Liberals have supported the Ukrainian people since the beginning of the war, but we also stand with those pro-democracy citizens in Russia who are fighting for freedom and a different future for their country. The great task before all of us—leaders of European liberal parties, liberal prime ministers, and EU commissioners—is to move forward as a community built on our shared values, liberal vision, and an understanding of the concerns of European citizens,” Kyuchyuk said at the opening of the meeting.
Mustafa Karadayi, chairman of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF), also participated in the liberal leaders’ meeting, affirming his strong support for Ukraine and its citizens.
