The MEP Ilhan Kyuchyuk is in the Macedonian city of Ohrid, where he took part in the Prespa dialogue forum, organized by the Foreign Ministry in Skopje.
In his capacity as permanent rapporteur for North Macedonia, Kyuchyuk is the only official representative from Bulgaria present at the event.
Promoting good neighborly relations and cooperation, as well as strengthening the stability of the Western Balkans, are among the topics discussed at the forum.
Participating in the panels for debates with the high-level participants was also the MEP Ilhan Kyuchyuk, who said that stability is not a given and it is high time to make it clear that the EU is incomplete without the Western Balkans.
“The only thing that will bring lasting peace to the region is the full membership of the countries of the Western Balkans. Starting the EU accession procedure provides the individual countries with an incentive to improve relations with each other and work for the stability of the region. The long-term benefits that EU membership would bring are vital for any new member state – economies thrive in sensible democracies, they create a sustainable, business-friendly environment that provides security. No other model guarantees this,” Kyuchyuk said.
The MEP also commented on the progress of North Macedonia and emphasized that it is a country that is serious and dedicated to its Euro-Atlantic aspirations, which it proved with its NATO membership. Kuciuk expressed hope that North Macedonia and Albania belong to the European family and will become full members of the union as soon as possible.
Kyuchyuk met with the President of North Macedonia Stevo Pendarovski, Prime Minister Dimitar Kovacevski and Foreign Minister Buyar Osmani. The MEP also held bilateral meetings with the foreign ministers of Croatia and Turkey – Gurlić Radman and Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, with Gabriel Escobar, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, and with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Ales Hmelar .
