“In order to restore the liberal world order, we need to deal with several major problems – the war in Ukraine, inflation and the protection of free trade,” said Kyuchyuk during his welcome to guests and delegates at the Liberal International congress.
The ALDE party president outlined three major issues facing the world today – the war in Ukraine, inflation and the protection of free trade.
“All of us liberals empathize with the Ukrainian people. They gave a historical lesson to the world. They are not just fighting for their independence, they are fighting for all of us, for our liberal values,” Kyuchyuk said categorically.
Kyuchyuk highlighted rising inflation and stagflation, which is a problem for low-income families, and was adamant that free trade protections must continue. He called for the unity of the liberals, which will ensure that the challenges are successfully met.
The forum gathered world liberals in Sofia, who outlined the liberal vision for the coming years.
The congress was opened by the chairperson of the Liberal International, Hakima el-Haite, who welcomed the guests and outlined the problems the world is currently struggling with – the pandemic, climate change and the war in Ukraine. In words, this war also shifts the focus from priorities and real problems.
As the host of the event in Sofia and a long-standing member of the Liberal International, the Movement for Rights and Freedoms has made a huge contribution to the protection of human rights and freedoms in Bulgaria. In his welcome, the president of the MRF, Mustafa Karadayi, called for even greater efforts by the liberal world to protect human rights, including in non-liberal countries.
“Our democratic systems must be strengthened to withstand future challenges and make the protection of human rights more sustainable and without borders. The idea of an open and free society, the inclusion of free and active citizens in political processes and the control of the implementation of decisions is extremely relevant and very important,” said Karadayi.
The opening of the large-scale forum was attended by the entire diplomatic corps in Sofia and more than 250 guests from around the world.
