Ilhan Kyuchyuk: Europe needs quick solutions to play a key geopolitical role

According to the MEP, the Conference on the Future of Europe will be a successful tool for democracy if it becomes a sustainable mechanism, but Bulgaria is again out of the debate due to the lack of representatives of the national parliament

MEP and co-president of ALDE Ilhan Kyuchyuk took part in the discussion “How to hear the voice of citizens through the Conference on the Future of Europe?”. The event was held live in Hall 10 of the National Palace of Culture and was organized in three parts – informative, discussion panel with MEPs and discussion with representatives of civil society organizations. The aim of the event is to acquaint the general public and stakeholders with the Conference on the Future of Europe and to encourage citizens to take an active part in it.

As a member of the “Europe in the World” working Committee, Ilhan Kyuchyuk paid serious attention to the issue of values, human rights and the rule of law.

„The question of whether Europe can be effective, finds the answer in the decisions of the first of the big political issues and then everyone else. It is in the interest of both Bulgaria and the EU to have clear coordination between the institutions so that Europe can play a key geopolitical role. The Conference on the Future of Europe has meaningful arguments and the digital platform gives a chance for a new democracy that will be successful if it becomes a sustainable mechanism. Europe must find its new look and set clear objectives for change. We owe this conversation to the Bulgarian citizens and to Bulgaria in order to try to Europeanize the dialogue. Now is the time for interaction between the Bulgarian Parliament and the EP, but unfortunately at the moment Bulgaria still does not have its 4 representatives from the national parliament in the Conference on the Future of Europe. In this way, we give up our right to participate in decision-making, ” Kyuchyuk said during the discussion.

The discussion was held in hybrid version and moderator of the event was the journalist Milena Milotinova.

We recall you that the MEP Ilhan Kyuchyuk started the Bulgarian participation in the Conference on the Future of Europe with his own event, which took place in May this year. Online forum “Europe of the citizens: Conference on the Future of Europe” aroused great interest among the audience because of current topics that were discussed by Vice-president of the European Commission for Democracy and Demography Dubravka Suica and Guy Verhofstadt Co-chair of the Executive Board of the Conference on the Future of Europe.
