I supported the text because in the wake of Panama Papers tax avoidance scandal, it is vital to end tax secrecy and abuses. Within EU almost € 1 trillion are being lost due to tax evasion and avoidance. The problem knows no borders and affects every European citizen therefore we should join efforts to stop it. In this context, we should support the extension of automatic information exchange at EU and global level. The amended directive 2011/16/EU is the first step towards more transparency and effective fight against tax fraud, tax evasion and aggressive tax planning.
