European liberal leader Ilhan Kyuchyuk is set to be honored with a Freedom Award, which will be presented to him tomorrow in the Romanian capital, Bucharest.
In the presence of prominent long-standing liberals from Romania, the Bulgarian MEP will receive the “Flame of Freedom” award personally from Christian David, President of the Institute for Freedom and Democracy.
This is yet another high accolade for Ilhan Kyuchyuk, who was named “Doctor Honoris Causa” by the American University in Skopje earlier this September. Just a month later, Ukraine awarded him an honorary certificate in appreciation of his contributions to upholding principles of international law.
The Institute for Freedom and Democracy was established to promote and preserve the values of freedom and democracy in Romania. Over the years, the Freedom Award has been presented to notable figures, including Marius Oprea, Romanian historian and President of the Center for Investigating Communist Crimes; Dr. Hakima El Haite, President of Liberal International; Dinu Zamfirescu, Romanian politician, former political prisoner during communism, arrested for his democratic views, BBC reporter, and human rights advocate; Emil Constantinescu, Romanian politician and former President of Romania (1996-2000), founder of the Civic Alliance movement; as well as the German Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom.
Before the award ceremony, Ilhan Kyuchyuk is scheduled to hold a series of high-level meetings and participate in the “Energy and Security in the Black Sea Region” Conference.
