The EU is the world’s leading trading power and single market. However, I supported the resolution because the not concluded Eurozone crisis (European sovereign debt crisis) in several Eurozone member states (Ireland, Portugal, Spain, Cyprus and Greece) proves that the EU needs assistance from the IMF. In this context, I believe that the EU should seek a full membership within the IMF. Full EU membership within the IMF will ensure that the Union exploits its potential fully, protects its interests and those of all its member states, deepens economic and monetary integration. In a long term perspective, unified external representation of the EU within the IMF will increase the importance of the EU and the euro area and will strengthen global multilateral economic and financial governance.
