Breeding animals and their germinal products (A8-0288/2015 – Michel Dantin)

Ilhan Kyuchyuk (ALDE ), in writing

I have voted in favour because in order to facilitate agriculture sector and to guarantee food security in the EU, we should pay serious attention on proposals for revision of EU legislation on zootechnical and genealogical conditions for trade in and imports into the Union of breeding animals and their germinal products (semen, oocytes and embryos). I believe that there are two important steps that have to be made. First, we should work to ensure animal health and welfare, including transport conditions for live animals inside and outside the Union. Thus, the EU and all actors in the zootechnical sector will take responsibility and will tackle inhuman treatment of animals not only within the EU but also in third countries. Second, we should facilitate cooperation between breed societies and breeding operations in order to remove obstacles to the free movement of breeding animals and their genetic material.
